Quarantine diary – Day 13

Nearly there.

More of the same today, really. I receive a negative result for my last PCR test in captivity – I have to take three more over the next couple of weeks when I’m out of quarantine – and that means that I’ve managed to spend 6 weeks in the UK and 3 in Canada without picking up the Covids, so it is possible. A positive test at this stage – which would result in automatic hospital admission and more quarantine after that – would mean that I’d picked it up here either at the airport or in the hotel. It has happened in a few cases, yes, and is a bone of contention because long mandatory quarantine is also a risk. Oh well. I do a walk with a fairly mundane Time to Walk track and then try and concentrate on the Bach. I’m almost there but I’m still worried that it’s not going to be good enough for rehearsal next week. Why do I always beat myself up for not being good enough? Dinner comes from a different Italian place and the cheery message on the delivery bag makes me smile. These are the little gestures that keep one going. Yes, it’s a slightly cheesy marketing message but someone has gone out of their way to write it and that’s nice. I paint my toenails, a little bit of grooming to face the outside world, and start to ponder how I am going to get back to Discovery Bay. In theory, I could check out at 00.01 on Sunday morning, having completed 14 days. You have to fix a time to check out and complete the formalities and I assume someone will contact me about that in the next 24 hours. If we had moved house as planned, I could just have got a taxi over to the new place in the east which is why I booked this DQH. As it stands, though, there are no ferries running to DB and I’d have to find a taxi driver willing to take me over. It’s about an hour from here via all the tunnels and bridges. And then I’d have to get a DB taxi at the other end. It’s just not going to happen, is it? I’ll wait until Sunday morning.
