Postcard #17 Sheffield
Almost as an afterthought, I arrived in Sheffield on Saturday during my first parkrun of the decade.
For reasons that will become apparent, there has been a delay posting this one. I arrived in Sheffield last Saturday morning, delighted with the interesting new local Parkrun.
I’d like to make clear that I disassociate myself from the crudely stereotypical comments on this card. My memories include almost being snowbound in Sheffield when doing some consulting there in a government department in 1994, I think it was. What started as a gloriously sunny winter’s day ended with picturesque snowdrifts on the hills that surround the town, gridlock through the tram roadworks near the station and a struggle on delayed trains back to London.
On a later trip to a training seminar, I think, I remember the hostility in the taxi driver’s tone as he clocked my London accent.
Here is a bit about Sheffield, anyway.
