What a year it’s been! Covid 19, Brexit, illness and death, plans interrupted, lockdowns, isolation. Misery abounds.
This Christmas I propose to bring you 12 little glad tidings of things that have brought a little joy to life this dismal year.
Today: the joy of a shower cap that actually works
Shhhowercap
I don’t wash my hair every day because it’s dry and thick and generally doesn’t need it and plus it takes ages to dry. So a shower cap is essential.
It’s such a trivial thing to most people, I know, but I had never found a shower cap that actually kept my hair dry in the shower until this year. Whenever I’ve carefully tucked my hair under every other shower cap I’ve used, making sure everything is covered and that the elastic sits nicely on my skin, it’s been a triumph of experience over hope and my hair emerges at the end of even a pissy little electric shower more or less wet through at the roots, destroying the previous day’s careful coiffure. (I can dream.)
This year I’ve found a shower cap that actually keeps my hair dry from Shhhowercap. I think it’s something to do with the silicone band at the front and the strong elastic action at the back. These caps, which come in a variety of funky designs, are quite expensive I know, but at least they work. You don’t have to replace them every few weeks because they now resemble a pancake. They don’t develop mould. My hair no longer emerges as a ball of frizz that makes me look like a chow-chow.
I know it’s just a little thing but to me it’s a source of happiness in a disappointing world. I bought my Shhhowercaps from Net a Porter and they cost £40.
