August
I am not really sure whether I am completely happy with the break in the three month Peach/Rosso hegemony that this long-awaited trip home has brought. Will you look at all of these cool, cooooooool, colours!
The first part of August was marked by slightly cooler Hong Kong temperatures brought about by stormy weather and th thread of a Tyuphoon which in the end fizzled out over southern China. I’ve included a white row here to mark the very sub-zero minimum temperatures of the more than half a day I spent on the plane first to Helsinki, and then to London. It’s a neat delineation of all the travel I’m doing. This year there were supposed to be more white rows. (Does that sentence look a little suspect?) I was supposed to have been in Canada with the Boywonder for the last couple of weeks. We were planning a trip to Xi’an for the terracotta warriors. Maybe a summer trip to the Phillipines or Bali? But instead, the solitary white row.
Seeing from afar the heatwave temperatures in London the week before my arrival, I brought with me orange, red, even purple but, as you can see, the weather broke on my arrival home and you can see exactly how the gradual winding down to autumn has happened in exactly the two weeks I’ve been here. The little cotton dresses I brought with me to shimmer in sun-baked London have sulked in my wardrobe and will be taken back to Hong Kong unworn; the cashmere jumpers I removed from my suitcase before leaving should have stayed in there.
The minimum for the very last day of August – Bank Holiday Monday – even dipped into Sea Foam and goodness knows what it will be for my trip to Edinburgh in the next week.
The cool colours are pleasing nonetheless and I like the combinations, which remind me of a crochet dress by Missoni.
(If you’re looking for my crochet block, you’ll find that now has its own project category.)
