Quickly, then, an opinion about Pat McGrath’s FetishEyes Mascara, only currently available in Black for HKD 230, which is about £23.

As with all of the Pat McGrath products I’ve tried, I’m a fan. I particularly love her lipsticks and eyeliners, and the eyeshadows go on buttery soft and last for ages.

The mascara is rich and creamy and gives dramatic volume to your eyelashes in one stroke. That is smells strongly of hyacinths is an added bonus for me as I love the scent of hyacinths but it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Though not specified as waterproof, I expect it would have great staying power in a normal climate. I don’t think I’ll be buying it again while I’m here, though, because in this Hong Kong heat and especially humidity that renders me a hot, sweaty mess almost as soon as I leave the house, I can’t trust it not to end up under my eyes, contributing to a sultry panda look. I’ve passed this on to Eliza as I’m sure it will be fine in Edinburgh. I’ll stick to my Hourglass Caution mascara in future.
