This performance of Brindisi, the drinking song from Verdi’s La Traviata went down especially well with the invited audience in the Villa Anna. Except, perhaps, the man behind me checking his phone. Enjoy, anyway, the Bromley Youth Concert Band on their recent Sicilian tour.
Oh yes, and pay particular attention to the trumpet solo from 16 year old Dan, a young man with a brilliant musical future.
Such a wonderful performance. Pity that man is so rude. Perhaps he had important tweets to read? By the way, where are the helicopter parents who should be hovering over the conductor’s shoulder with hi tech digital camcorders and zooming in on their children?
Parents? We arrived late, the five of us, and duly took our seats in an unobtrusive way.
Very proud parents you must all be 🙂 A lot of nurture and encouragement to help those fine young people develop such wonderful talent. Just remember, they might have put in the work, but you made it possible.
People don’t seem to realise that playing an instrument in a band at this level takes commitment and hard work. It is not simply a holiday activity of a social climbing opportunity!
If people think that then it’s down to the usual jealousy, pettiness, envy and begrudgery. Clearly these young people have put in so much work and it shows. Such an uplifting performance. I doubt they had much time to enjoy Sicily as they would have been preparing and practicing. I don’t know who in their right mind thinks music is for “social climbing”. A very sad person with no appreciation clearly. I have great respect and admiration for the young people who have worked so hard and all those adults who have guided them and nurtured their talents. It is people like these who give us all the gift of music that makes life more than just existence.
